About Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, also known as Reduction Mammaplasty, is designed primarily for women with huge, pendulous breasts who may have suffered from back pain or other medical problems as a result. The primary concern of the surgeon is to alleviate the major symptoms while creating a much more attractive appearance.
All uncertainty and risk factors of breast reduction surgery will be discussed in a consultation. Breast reduction involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, extending downward following the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed, and reshaping is done. Liposuction may be necessary to remove excess fat in the armpit area. This procedure takes about two to three hours. Scarring will vary among patients.
Insurance for reduction mammoplasty will be considered for this surgery if proper documentation is provided to substantiate medical necessity. The Liposuction portion, however, will not be a covered procedure.
