Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Your nose may be the most defining feature of your face. Therefore it is understandable that many people elect to improve the shape and/or size of their nose through rhinoplasty, sometimes called a "nose job." Some patients seek to transform a large or bulbous nose, repair a damaged nose, or correct a breathing problem or other conditions that may have plagued them for years. During your initial consultation, all the possibilities will be discussed and the probable outcome will be determined. Rhinoplasty, also called nose surgery or nose reshaping, is performed in our office based surgical facility, sometimes under local anesthesia.

After Rhinoplasty surgery, you may experience stuffiness for the first few days and there may be some bruising and swelling, which is normal. Any discomfort can be alleviated with prescribed medication. It is important to be careful not to rub, bump or blow your nose during the healing period. Most patients are up and active after two days. A small cast is applied which is removed in one week.

Rhinoplasty is not a procedure that is covered by insurance. However, if there is a breathing difficulty as a result of a deviated septum, it can be done at the same time, and your insurance company may sometimes cover the cost of the medical portion if you have a long record of being treated for breathing difficulties by an ENT physician.

As with all cosmetic surgery, results will be rewarding if expectations are realistic. As with any surgery, there are some risks which your doctor will discuss with you.
