Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Upper Eyelids

A person who wakes up with baggy or droopy eyelids, even after a good night's sleep, and to whom comments are made about how tired he or she looks, is a prime candidate for Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Surgery. This procedure, in which fat pockets and excess skin are removed, can be performed under local anesthesia. Incisions are made within the natural contours of the eye. The scars usually fade within a few weeks. After this surgery, for women, make-up application is easier with much better results. For both men and women, the result will be that they appear to have a much brighter, more alert and more refreshed appearance.

When expectations are realistic, cosmetic surgery can be a most gratifying experience.

Lower Eyelids

A person who has pockets of fat, excess skin or muscle beneath the lower eyelids is a candidate for Lower Eyelid Surgery, also known as Blepharoplasty.

Incisions for lower eyelid Blepharoplasty are usually made below the lashline. Sometimes the procedure calls for incisions to be made inside the lower eyelid, leaving no visible scars. In this instance, dissolvable sutures may be used.

Many patients elect to have both upper eyelid and lower eyelid procedures done at the same time, if both are necessary. This will be determined during your initial consultation.

As with all plastic surgery, results will be rewarding if expectations are realistic. As with any surgery, there are some risks which your doctor will discuss with you.
